OUR TEN MINUTES TOGETHER

What will we discuss?

The conference is a focused conversation about where your child is now and what will help them continue growing.

R

Reading

Word recognition, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, participation, and the reading skills your child is currently developing.

W

Writing

Ideas, organization, sentence development, handwriting, spelling, writing stamina, and how independently your child completes written work.

M

Math

Understanding of current concepts, mathematical reasoning, strategy use, accuracy, participation, and areas that may need more practice.

1StrengthsWhat your child is doing well
2ProgressWork samples and current learning
3Next stepsOne or two useful goals
4Your questionsFamily insight and concerns

When relevant, we may also briefly discuss classroom habits, attendance, behavior, communication, accommodations, or supports that affect learning. Ten minutes cannot cover every possible topic, so a longer follow-up may be scheduled when needed.

A FAMILY–TEACHER PARTNERSHIP

Why conferences matter

Families know their children in ways a teacher cannot, and teachers see children learning alongside their peers every day. Bringing those two perspectives together helps us recognize strengths, address concerns earlier, set realistic goals, and give children more consistent support between home and school.

Before your appointment

  • Ask your child what feels easy or difficult at school.
  • Think about changes, concerns, or successes I should know about.
  • Write down your most important questions.
  • Review ParentSquare messages and any work sent home.
  • Plan to arrive or answer the phone on time.

QUESTIONS ARE WELCOME

Helpful questions families may ask

  • What are my child’s strongest skills right now?
  • Which reading skill needs the most support?
  • How is my child progressing in writing?
  • Which math concepts should we practice at home?
  • How independently does my child complete work?
  • How does my child participate and work with others?
  • What is one realistic goal for the next few weeks?
  • How can home and school work together on a concern?

NEED A DIFFERENT DATE?

Regular family meetings remain available.

If neither conference evening works, use the regular appointment calendar to request another available meeting time. This option is temporarily secondary while conference scheduling is open.
